Type Locality and Naming

The naming section is located at Miaoshanpo north slope of Shihuiba Village, Lufeng County, Yunnan. Named by Chen Wanyong in 1986. The formation is equivalent to the first bed of section D called when Qi Guoqin (1985) described the Shihuiba section.


Lithology and Thickness

Mainly yellow sandy clay and yellow fine sand bed, with thickness 6 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is distinguished from the black gray carbonaceous clay of the underlying Shihuiba Fm by its indistinct colors and bedding. This formation shows an unconformable contact with the underlying formation.

Fossils

It contains mammals, fishes, fossil apes and fossil bats that do not appear in the Shihuiba Formation. It is distributed on margins of the Lufeng basin.
